Reductio ad absurdum

Filipino politicians are becoming spineless cowards like some politicians of Europe.Let me post a news fron SunStar Davao.

This is absolutely against the 1987 Constitution of the Philippines.

Article II Section 6 The separation of Church and State shall be inviolable.

Let me quote one of the foundations of 1987 Constitution Dean Emeritus and amicus curiae Fr. Joaquin Bernas,S.J. in his article.,

That is the "separation part" of the Constitutional command. The other part is the "free exercise clause". Both are embodied in one sentence which says,"No law shall be made respecting an establishment of religion,or prohibiting the free exercise thereof."

The fundamental meaning of the clause is the prohibition imposed on the state not to establish any religion as the official state religion.

The constitutional command, however,is more than just the prohibition of a state religion. That is the minimal meaning.Juresprudence has expanded it to mean that the state may not pass "laws which aid one religion, aid all religions,or prefer one religion over another."

Therefore, the councilors of Davao City are making serious mistake for making"a law aiding one religion",i.e. Islam, and "prefering one religion over another",i.e. Islam. On my opinion the author of the said bill want to please muslim communities of Davao City,"for personal gain"? to gain support from muslim community for the next election and/or for security reason? SIPSIP bah?

NO TO FAITH BASED LAWS!!!

Note: The paragraph(s) that is/are written in italic form is/are quoted from an article of Fr.Bernas, which I also copied from Innerminds of filipinofreethinkers.org
